From the recording Outskirts of Saskatoon
As a little boy, we would often drive down to Grandpa's and Grandma's, where their home & grain farm was, in and around the little town of Milden, about an hour SouthWest of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
I suppose the song is an expression of my memories of the sights, sounds and feelings of returning back to our home in Montgomery Place, the Veteran's Land Act neighbourhood on the SW Outskirts of Saskatoon, late on Sunday evening.
There were two coveted spots in the early 1950s Oldsmobile Rocket 88, diverse one to another: laying in the back window, where you could watch the stars and dream of life beyond; and in the front seat between mom and dad, where you could have direct control over surfing the radio, and making sure that when your favourite song started fading out, that you could jockey that AM knob and keep it sounding nice and strong.
Lyrics
Outskirts of Saskatoon
Daddy tunes a station in
But the airwaves are still pretty thin
But he hears a gospel song
Playin' all night long
The lesson he's still trying to learn
It's A Hard Days Night
On the Outskirts of Saskatoon
Saskatchewan
I can see the sky's gettin' brighter all the time
And the light's growin' stronger
Goin' deeper in the night
Pretty soon we'll be pulling in the driveway
Off the highway
Headin' into the lights of Saskatoon
On the Outskirts of, Saskatoon
